Hey all!
So this past week I made my boyfriend a super fun birthday cake. Usually when I make a topper for a customer I use rice krispie treats to make the base of the topper….weeelllll I did that this time and much to my dismay the topper came out even better than I hoped for and my boyfriend is determined to save it. He actually wants me to put it on a dummy cake to display. The whole thing is just that chunk of the cereal treat and a ton of gumpaste and the only part where the cereal treat is exposed is the bottom. Is there any possible way to seal it and save it? seriously any ideas at all are so appreciated…I am so bummed I didnt think of it sooner because I wouldve made it on a foam base, but I am so used to doing it my usual “all edible” for my customers way that Im sad it might not work…but I figured Id ask all of you talented people and hopefully something might work.
Thank you!!!
xoxo

Hi Sara! I did exactly the same thing with a topper I made and wanted to keep it for display, all I did was ice a cake board in a wood effect and stuck the topper on with royal icing, this was a year ago and is still perfect!! The fondant on the board completely sealed it! Have attached a pic to show you, hope this helps!! :-) x

Sara I saved Apples rice krispies birthday cake and that was 11 months ago. Mine is not even sealed on the bottom I just keep it on one of those “lace” doilies and it’s fine, faded a but but that is normal. But as Elli said putting it on a cake board that is decorated with fondant and attach it with royal or melted chocolate will create a seal. You can keep it forever just remember not to keep exposed to the sun and heat.

Just a small tip, keep it also away from humidity!!! I believe that humidity is the worst enemy of sugar decorations. I used to store my flowers in a kitchen cupboard which was very humid due to the fact that it was placed against an outside wall. They didn’t keep for more than a couple of months. Now I found a better storage place in the same kitchen but in another cupboard and I still have flowers from my daughter’s Confirmation cake which she did over 3 years ago.
