Is there a point when you want to bake and make cakes but your mood affects you and you cant do it properly? That’s happening to me now..
My full time work is overwhelming and I have so much paperwork to do and many meetings to attend.. I worry about everything. And as a result I cant bake and make cakes properly. Results don’t turn out satisfactory. Please help!! Any advice?

Hi LiLian,
I think we can all get to a point where our cakes become stressful
and things don’t seem to work how they used to, or we have so much
to do that we lose track of what we’re doing, trust me, I’ve been there.
If you don’t make cakes as a business, my advice would be to take a break
from baking for a while, I know it sounds harsh, but I had to do the same myself
earlier in the year, it was like my brain forgot how to cover a cake and how
to bake the perfect sponge, nothing was working as it should.
I had to take a step back and sit it out for a little while.
Its tough because we love to bake, but when things are going wrong and we can’t concentrate properly, its best to stop and wait for things to settle.
The way I think about it is, if my mind can’t concentrate on making something
nice then I’m not going to do it until I’m focused, otherwise it feels like a waste of time.
Your work commitments won’t last forever, so soon enough you’ll be able to
concentrate on what you love to do again, and then, all you’ll want to do is bake!!
Hope this helps,
Best of luck!!

I agree with Laura – if this is a hobby for you and it’s adding to your stress level, then step away from it for a while until things get better at work. Find some way to de-stress yourself though. I hope things get better soon and you can get back to baking!

Dear Laura Loukaides and cupadeecakes, thank you for the advice! Baking is a part time hobby but I am paid by friends and family whenever there is an order. When there isn’t an order I try to practise, but lately nothing seems to turn out ok whenever I am doing it. It was lucky there wasn’t any order or request for cakes or cupcakes. I think the stress came from my full time job as a lawyer..
Apparently yesterday evening when a mutual acquaintance requests last minute for cupcakes today for a good cause, I was able to do it as it was for the kids from an orphanage for iftar and I didn’t want to disappoint them. I stayed up late and manage to pull it off though I made simple deco only.. Thank God! It was for a good cause and no payment was made. But they make me feel pretty good again..
But as advised, I will take a break from baking these two weeks and just try to concentrate on work only… Thank you!!!! XOXO

Hi, Lilian, I looked at your work and it is beautiful – you should be very proud of your talent.
I agree with my other colleagues – sometimes it is best to step away for a couple of weeks and come back with a renewed interest. When you return to cake decorating, youll have a fresh new outlook.
Good luck!

Dear DJ Funfetticakes, thank you for your kind words. But I think there are many of you here who are much much more talented than me! I am humbled when I am here.
Yes, I will follow the advice and stop pressuring myself in terms of baking and decorating for two weeks (unless there are paid orders) and just relax.
Thanks again!
