Do not book an Online course with Laura from Sweet As Sugar Cakes

Do not book a course with Sweet Sugar Cakes. They are taking bookings and the payments then when the day comes to do the course, the shop is closed and they are nowhere to be seen

I drove for 5 hours to get to the shop and guess what the shop was closed. Can you imagine how I felt as this was a birthday present from my husband.
After spending a good portion of the day trying to contact Laura Miller and after one last check at the shop I started the miserable drive back to Cornwall at 3.30pm and got home at 8.00pm

In an email Laura wrote that she did not know I was booked in, but if that was the case why did she not show up at the shop on hte day of the course as I called her mobile from outside the shop and left 12 messages for her to return my call

Since then I have found out that a lady from Holland flew in for a course the week before me and Laura Miller did not pitch up.
Today there is a lady from Nottingham who booked a private 3 day course, booked the hotel for the three days and only booked the hotel after Laura told her that her course was still on and told her to bring 3 cakes for the course work. Lorien arrived to find the shop closed

My Advice stay away and warn other bakers

#1. You need a full refund. If she’s not retuning your phone calls/emails and she doesn’t refund you, then…..
You need to call the police….this is fraud, pure and simple. You have proof with your paid receipt, your unanswered phone calls to the shop and the other clients she’s bilked. They definitely will investigate.

You mean the award winning sweet as sugar cakes..nice assume. My advice would be to remove this and seek the proper legal recourse…go to small claims or file a police report. Honesty whilst I think it’s appalling, if this is true, it’s also unprofessional to call out another baker publicly and defame them. You could also find yourself facing a counter suit for slander if you’re not careful.

It’s not slander/liable if it is true. If the baker concerned has not contacted the op to explain the reason for the failure or refund her money then she has not received the service she paid for. This is a breach of contract and yes she can sue her and most probably will be able to obtain a County Court judgment againts her but they won’t necessarily mean that she will recover her money or the money that has to be paid to issue the claim.

I completely agree with Rebekah. Laura runs a well established business, so whilst this is very unsatisfactory on her part, don’t assume that her ulterior motive is to deceive customers. If you have a problem with the way she runs her business, take it up with her, not on a public forum.

You must never limit your challenges, instead you must challenge your limits

Hi All
The reason for going public was for to prevent this from happening to somebody else , this has happened to other people as well.
If Laura had called me back whilst I was stood outside her shop or replied to my husband’s calls on the day to sort it out. This post would not have happened

I have tried to call Laura numerously with no response and have still not spoken to Laura which is frustrating
If I could have dealt with this privately I would have done, but I live in Cornwall and Laura was not forthcoming ,
I did not go public to spoil Laura’s name only to make people aware of what happened

Laura is now emailing me so that we can settle the matter

Going public is distasteful but
