Hi all – can you help please? I have a set of plastic ball tools but was considering buying some metal ones. Do you find they are better and worth the investment? If so, which ones do you recommend? Thanks Anne

I use some plastic tools just fine, but balling tools I only use metal, much prefer them.
I have used these in the past. http://www.rainbowsugarcraft.co.uk/Metal+Ball+Tools/0_CAAA833_CAAA666/PRAE372.htm
But now prefer this one, I use nothing else. http://www.thecakeguru.co.uk/product/large-metal-ball-tool-2/

That’s really helpful, thankyou. I may just have to treat myself!!

You’re very welcome… I particularly find when pushing out ends of petals, you get a much finer edge with the metal than with the plastic. But that’s me maybe, not sure how others feel :)

Oh I much prefer my metal ball tool. Best change I ever made. The plastic always stuck to my gumpaste, and as Calli says, you can get a much thinner, finer edge with the metal tool.

Thanks both of you. I found the plastic stuck too, so metal is definitely the way forward then. xx

You’ll love it Christine. I just happened to be in a decorating shop for something else, and the metal ball tool was on sale, so I thought, always wanted one, I’ll try it. So glad I did…

Hi Anne, I always use the metal ones, mine are the ones with the blue handles and you can find them easily on Amazon or eBay. xx

Thanks Pamela – those are quite a bit cheaper too.

Metal every time. Sometimes the plastic ones have a ridge too which will rip your sugarpaste. Metal gives a much better finish and is less stressful on your hands as you need less pressure.
