Cake Decorating Business

Looking for some advice!!!

We are trying to find a good form of advertising, something that really works and that does not cost a lot of money. Does anyone have some suggestions?

I found word of mouth is the best form of advertising, produce a good quality product at a reasonable price and happy people will talk.I also sponsor my childrens sporting teams shirts ,as they wear them around for the season and after ,for all to see and it also helps the clubs out,it targets the mothers who purchase most of the cakes.I find radio and papers too exspensive as its hard to make the money back plus a profit.

Stay social – Facebook, Twitter, lots of web activity, etc. Ask other websites to link back to you also.

I just wanted to say I know we have both posted on craigslist at the same time before but for me that was an endless and consuming waste of time. I had one order that worked out great even though she was still the most difficult person to work with and wanted everything for nothing, I do also have her wedding cake coming up so that worked out. Apart from that though it was sketches for free then when I asked for deposits to continue they would never come back so that for me is something I will not do again. Word of mouth is all I have used. Make sure you get the right clients and for me that meant doing some free cakes or really cheap cakes but they are now my number one clients. You want clients who do not argue over price, your time is worth it so don’t under charge for too long eventually you have to make progress and that means the right price for your cake. Even though we are in the same area I wish you luck and hope you have great success. If I ever get too busy I can’t do an order I will gladly send them your way.

I am usingfacebook and google… Specifically, Facebook sell and swap pages in my community… There are thousand of people on these pages and you can get a ton of exposure. I have found that people are always asking about where to find custom cake designers.. Good luck to you. :)

Instagram is a new social network where you can show pictures of your work and follow other bakers! I’ve gotten a good amount of business using instagram and facebook.

I recently got sucked into paying for an upgraded listing on Wedding Wire but I already regret it because I don’t think it will be worth it. Anyone pay for a listing on wedding wire or the knot? I’m curious to see what others experience is.

Facebook advertising would work really well for a cake decorator trying to target a particular area – because you can really specify exactly who you want to pay to advertise to. There are a few things you need to do to make the most of your advertising spend – but in the main a good use of an advertising budget, rather than paying for printed leaflets for example. Kx
