Making a wedding cake for the first time...as a favour!

Hi I’m totally new to all this, I’ve only ever baked cakes for home (basic cakes at that). My niece is having a low key wedding (thank goodness it is low key!) and has asked me to make her wedding cake. Bottom tier – Fruit, Middle & Top – Sponge. I’ve made the fruit cake already, my question is I’m really not sure how to present them when the time comes. She doesn’t want a cake stand so it’s case of stacking them. What is the best way to go about this…dowels? and how is that done. I’m also a little unsure what boards to put them on (do you see some of the board?).

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Not sure if you have received a response but you tube is great for this kind of advice – hope this helps – if you want more indepth help give me a shout.

I don’t want to sound negative, but going from basic cakes to a tiered wedding cake is a huge leap. I suggest that, like the above response, you do as much research as possible; online tutorials, books etc. there is a lot to take into consideration when making a wedding cake.

Roo's Little Cake Parlour

Thank you Bracken that is brilliant! I’m sure it will help lots. Roo’s little cake parlour thank you too, it is a huge responsibility definitely. I guess I have to start somewhere, I have made one tier cake before for my dad’s birthday. Fortunately my niece knows I’ve never done a wedding cake before (she made her first one for her friend a year ago) but I don’t want to let her down. I will definitely look for advice on the Internet. Thank you both of you very much.

Hi just wanted to thank everyone for your advice. Me and my very first cake survived and had a brilliant day. Everyone thought the cake tasted fantastic. I definitely need more practice with icing though. I did struggle with that massively. But once again thanks for your help 😊

Well done Zoe……it looks fantastic! :-)
