Hi. I’ve looked into mixers before and didn’t buy one because I became a bit overwhelmed.

I’m in Australia and have only had a hand mixer. So trying to decide what I need, how that fits into brands, watts etc

At this stage I only make cakes. I have never done anything with mixing dough, not saying I won’t but I’m certainly not going to be doing that on a weekly basis. What I can ascertain from the reviews is people who do a lot with dough seem to hsve a lot to say on quality, sturdiness etc.

can anyone advise me one what mixers worked well for them, any advise to help me decide what mixer to get.

Many thanks

Michelle

Hi Michelle… I cannot advise you on all the brands… I only decorate for family and a couple of very close friends… so I don’t need a commercial strength mixer.
I am using a Kenwood Chef, which I have owned for about 15 years.
It did come with a whisk, paddle and dough hook.
It has never needed repair.
Good luck with your purchase.

Hi Michelle,
Like Julez I only bake for friends and family and do not have a commercial mixer. I however have 2 kitchen aid mixers. One I have had for close to 15 years and one for about 5 years. I have the 4quart and 6quart. The only reason I have 2 is I found the 4quart was too small at Xmas time to make all my gingerbread cookie dough and I could not see throwing away a perfectly good mixer. 😃
Good luck with your search.

Hi Michelle, I’ve just recently purchased the new Kenwood mixer,( i can tell you which model if you are interested ) i looked at both the kenwood and Kitchen aid mixers, although i love the look of the Kitchen Aid i found the Kenwood better suited for making sponge batter and buttercream, before i got my new Kenwood i had an old Kenwood from 1976! i was shocked to learn it was as old as me !! lol
but now i have the new Kenwood its quieter, more powerful and whips buttercream amazingly, maybe its me going from such an old machine to a spanking new one but i love it.
Hope I’ve helped and good luck ,let us know what you end up choosing will be interested to know xx Helen

Thank you everyone. I have been looking at the Kenwood as my preference. After much deliberation we are now looking at the one that also has the convection cooker, food processor and mixer.

We have been doing without with a few kitchen appliances for a while now and although now spending more than anticipated (hopefully get a good special) will be satisfying a number of other requirements.

So I’m excited to get a really good mixer plus hoping it will make my dinner cooking quicker and easier as to spend more time making/decorating cakes!

That big Kenwood that also cooks is my DREAM appliance!
I have a Kenwood Chef, not industrial-size or anything, and its never let me down.

Heaven in paper cups!
