Pastillage Recipe?

I would like feedback on a pastillage a recipe as to how it handles.Yener’s way gives good advice on working with pastillage and has a great Recipe for pastillage which consists of Gelatine,Icing sugar mix ,Water,Glucose and Cream of tartar. I came across a recipe for pastillage that consists of Icing sugar,Tylose powder and Water.

I would like to know if anyone has any advice/experience on working with this second recipe, does it handle and dry well? is it prone to breaking? what are the pros and cons of using it?

I’ve made and used Pastillage and Mexican paste. I have found the Mexican paste is, simple to make, and is great to work with, strong, durable and so so much easier to work with. No fussing with gelatin. Here’s the recipe I use with a good tutorial. I’ve still got some frozen in my freezer. Keeps well wrapped for 6 months. Hope you find this helpful.

Mexican paste is not well known in cake decorating but works very well for many laces, molds …

Hey ladies – can you tell me what pastillage is?
I’m in South Africa and fondant is fondant – I add CMC powder to turn it into gumpaste and I use royal icing with CMC to make flower paste.

Heaven in paper cups!

Hi Angel, I am in SA too..Pastillage is a form of paste that is more sturdy than gumpaste and dries much harder.it is good for making 3 D shapes.
Here is a link to Erica Obrien’s Blog she explains different cake decorating pastes.
Do look for Yener’s way post on Pastillage as well.Hope this helps…
