Natural Food Dyes

Does anyone have any experience with using natural food dyes (ie; reduced and strained raspberry puree/pure pomegranate juice) to color or paint on fondant? Just wondering if I would be able to obtain a good red color

Thanks for any help or stories (good or bad experiences)

Sorry Krystal no. I haven’t. I’ve used beet juice in my red velvet cake for the colour. Works out well.

Thanks ladies :) think I may just have to do some test painting – I don’t think I can actually add it into the fondant with out it just coming out too moist, red is hard enough to get with the concentrated gel colors!

There are several natural dyes on amazon for sale. Maybe one of them is for you.

The only ones I have used a while back were from Whole Foods (USA) and they were in liquid form and the colors were never like gel ones.

I have been willing to give natural colors a try. This link suggest for a deeper shade is better to use powder and explains how to make your own. I haven’t try it yet, is in my to do list. It might help. ://nourishingjoy.com/homemade-natural-food-dyes/

I know beet root for red velvet cupcakes but not sure if it will work for painting. May be you can test on small piece and see xx

Thanks everyone!! MADcrumbs that is a very helpful article – going to try my hand at making some natural powder colors. I’ve ventured into the vegan market, which always has some new request for something I need to research and test :)
