Hi everyone, I posted earlier about making a 3D Standing Smirnoff cake. It seems that it would be a bit advanced for me just yet and i wouldnt do it justice so i am going to try a bottle laying on the board instead. Could anyone help me with some tips or tricks or pointers to get it to look realistic. do i use a long rectangle tin and carve it or small circle tins cut down the middle and laid down on the board? and do i fill it with buttercream? I also love to know the best way to get good definition on the neck and top of the bottle. Is the cake cut with that fine detail or is that done just with the fondant on top?
Sorry for all the questions but if anyone could give me any tips or points in the right direction it would be a great help.
Thank you all :)

:D I would use the round cake so you do not have to carve as much.. just like you said cut it down the middle and then stack them standing up carve if needed to get the right shape…. this is for only the bottom portion of the bottle the neck part I would make of fondant and attach to the cake,,. and then ice and put in freezer to let the icing get hard or you could let it chill in the frig.. it is better when the icing has set before you put the fondant on….. that way you don’t get the icing on your fondant :D hope this is helpful :D good luck :D :D

Dubey Cakes

Bethann said it best

I made a 2-D Grey Goose bottle, using round cakes split in half. Then stacked those up along the cake board and went from there. Didnt need to do much carving, only for the next area. And rice crispy treats are a great filler the top part of the bottle cake

Thats great Bethann and MzCuteCupcakes. The smallest tin i have is a 5 inch. is that too big? I want it to look it proportion and am trying to imagine how long it would need to be (ie how many 5" cakes to bake) so that it doesnt look like a stumpy fat bottle.lol :)
Thanks again for your help and advice

Depends on how many people you want to feed. Here’s the one I made:

If they dont show up let me know and I will re-post the pics

But I used a total of six 6" round cakes, split in two. I believe this bottle cake was for 50 people

And the neck was made using cake, but if I had to do it again I would use rice crispies instead

Wow that cake is great mzcutecakes. Dont think I need one quite that big so my 5inch should be fine. Thanks for the reference so I could judge it. What size of board was that cake sitting on? Just out of interest, what would be the best way to cut such a cake. I will be there when it’s cut and im afraid that if its cut in semi circles say from the bottom up which im sure most people would naturally do then some people mite get a slice with no buttercream and others more buttercream than cake? Thanks for all ur help and hints so far :)

Thank you Sweetlilly. I wasnt there when the customer cut her cake, but I would make vertical cuts, not horizontal. If you look at my pic, you can see how they were cutting it, and I dont think that would be the best way. Instead of cutting with the direction of the round cakes, I would cut the opposite way, which would be vertical, if that makes any sense
