Cake Disasters

Hobbies are supposed to be for fun and relaxation.....

So excited to be asked to make a Frozen themed cake for a little girl through Free Cakes For Kids. Not great covering a cake last night in this heat – and this morning a huge air bubble a crack. No time to re-cover so I guess we are in to damage limitation – maybe a sleeve of icing pictures using my new printer that has just arrived and strategically placed snowflakes? Hope Olaf behaves and doesn’t melt! In need of virtual hugs please……….

Hang in there… hopefully you have been able to press the bubbled out area to make it flat again… this should reduce the size of the crack.
It sounds like you are on the right track with ideas to cover up….
Virtual hugs… xoxox

I recently came across this tutorial on repairing fondant tears. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaC4Bzj9vJU
It works pretty well.

Wow!! I was going to answer and I saw Goreti´s post. That´s an amazing method! I never heard about it, I hace to try! Judy, if you try it tell us haw it was!

I actually used it on the wedding cake that I did and it worked pretty well.

How great Goreti!!!! Thank you!

did you try to make a chimney (poke a hole in the top of the center of cake)and smoothing it up with the fondant smoother? or was it decorated already? this had always worked for me. some time i poke the hole even when there isnt a issue just to keep there from being an issue.

Wow Goreti – thank you, almost worth having the problem for this great tip. Already used plan b and the picture collar but will definitely bear this in mind for the future. Thanks Samantha – sounds another interesting approach. Thanks Julez too. Love you guys – nice to have somewhere to offload! X

Aww so sorry!! I would have cried for sure but sounds like you have a good plan and Goreti’s video was fab too. For some reason we have massive heart failures when things go very wrong but some how by magic it comes right in the end!!! I"m sure yours will be brilliant too!! Big hug and look forward to see it finished!! :-) x

Thanks Elli! It’s coming together a bit now. Whether I brave showing is another matter! Must say I’m pleased with the printer though – about the only thing that’s gone right! Great thing about children’s cakes is that more is more thankfully ;)
