Hi, everybody…
I’ve been asked to do a 4-tier cake for a baby shower and I want to make sure the stacking is secure since I will have to travel quite a distance to deliver the cake.
I normally use dowels and cake boards in between tiers – however, I was considering using the plastic cake plate separators this time around. The tiers will be one on top of the other – but since I’ve never used separators, I’m not sure what size to purchase – do they need to be the exact size of the tier I’m putting on top – smaller – larger?
Any advice would be appreciated.
P.S. No columns are required.

I haven’t used separator plates for stacking cakes. I really like the stress free system (http://www.stressfreecakes.com/public/). Never had an issue with them, but anyway when i use these I always use the plate that is 2 inches smaller then the cake. I would guess the plastic ones would work along the same line.
Hope this helps :)
Thank you… the system you use seems awesome – my only concern is getting back the support system from the client – do you ask for a deposit? If so, how much? Many thanks – I appreciate your feedback.

So far I have not had an issue getting the system back. I do ask for a deposit that is the cost of the plates. So if I have to use 2 plates I ask for a $70 refundable deposit in a separate check then my payment.
I give the client a self addresses padded envelope that the system fits in so all they have to do is take the legs off and put in in the envelope. When I get the plates back I void their check and mail it back to them. So far this has worked out well for me. I got this idea from Peggy Does Cakes who introduced me to this support system.
Sounds simple enough – I may invest in this system so I won’t worry any more about cakes shifting or tilting at the worst possible moment – LOL!
Many thanks!
