I haven’t used separator plates for stacking cakes. I really like the stress free system (http://www.stressfreecakes.com/public/). Never had an issue with them, but anyway when i use these I always use the plate that is 2 inches smaller then the cake. I would guess the plastic ones would work along the same line.
