Which floral paste does everyone use?

I have a potential wedding cake order which will involve making over 100 roses. It will be covering a huge dummy however there will be a real cake slice in there too… the roses on the real cake slice would need to taste nice (at least on the real slice) and they won’t be attached with a wire

I use Squires florist paste(because it tastes nice) but i find the flowers i’ve made tend to break so easily once dried, the petals just fall.

I saw someone on my news feed from fb trying out a new florist paste recommended by another fellow cake decorator and their roses looked stunning and almost slightly translucent and i can’t for the life of me figure out who it was(probably someone on here)

What does everyone use? and what would you recommend?

Many thanks

Hi Nuria! I always use squires also, I love it and have never really had a problem with it. I get some breakage but I guess that is normal! I have recently bought some florist paste called Premium or platinum florist paste? I haven’t tried it yet but I think a lot of the really good flower makers use it and it is meant to be very good! Try google it, if you have trouble finding it let me know and I will get you the proper name and make, (sorry haven’t got it to hand at the mo) I hope this helps! :-) x

I tried Sainsbury’s own brand and was surprised to find it is amazing! I now buy instead of Squires.

No way? Ok that’s interesting and will be on my list x

I’ll be interested to see what you think. If a lot of the roses will be on a dummy and not eaten, couple you use cold porcelain? So much more durable.

My favourite for flowers is Squires but it can be pricey, a cheaper alternative is Renshaws modelling paste, fabulous quality for the price. x

Ive tried renshaws with great results and no breakages, its very good value for money too!
