Hi,
I have a client who just ordered an Open Book First Communion Cake – I have a pan that I can use in the shape of an open book, which would keep me from having to do any carving. However, I was wondering if anyone has tried to fill this type of cake with buttercream?
I’m afraid that if I tort the cake to fill it, it may fall apart, even if I use a denser type cake – any ideas, or suggestions?
Many thanks!

Hi dj, I made this cake out of a sheet cake and carved it. I found that to torte it easier I did it in 2 halfs. Cut all the way through it horizontally, then make a cut down the centre of the book and fill it in 2 parts. Put a small amount of buttercream down your centre cut, to glue it back together. It shouldnt fall apart this way, should work with the book pan too. Hope this helps xx

Thank you, Christine. I think it will be better to do it your way rather than use a molded pan.
I appreciate your feedback!
