So wafer paper seems to be the latest trend. I would like to try it out. Is it basically rice paper? the same as you buy in A4 packs for printing on or is this too thick or is there a specific product out there for making wafer flowers? Many thanks for any help in advance. x

Hi Liz, ive never used it before either. But, I think it is just the sheets of rice paper and you cut it, fold it, and colour it. You can print designs on it. Thats next on my list – an edible ink printer! Will follow this to see what advice comes xx

I used rice paper in 2010 when I was making a windsurfer cake! I wanted something translucent and light to make the sail, so came up with that idea! It worked perfectly and I painted it in the usual way. I believe it is the same thing …. but I am always open to correction. xx

I got mine from ebay… I believe wafer paper is made from potato starch?… I have found you do have to be very careful how much moisture you apply… it does disintigrate easily… but still a great medium for some things!

are you better to use dusts on it ? does it stick

Wallace, you can use dusts. On my last cake posted, “Oriental Silk”… I used wafer paper for the peacock feathers. I airbrushed those, prior to cutting them out, but I layered the colours, and let it dry between coats, to prevent the wafer from getting too wet. I just used a light dab of water to stick together… but some people use piping gel….

This is not the best example you will find, but I used dust to colour the centre of my ranunculas on this cake (no problem with it staying put):

Stevi Auble has absolutely gorgeous cakes, and uses wafer in many ways…

Wow Julez beautiful cakes. Can you cut the rice paper with say a petal cutter or do you have to cut it all by hand with scissors? Thanks so much for the help x
