Hey everyone.
So my wedding is next summer and there is a big debate on who will be doing the cake. We’re planning a budget wedding ($10,000 or less) and I say that to help save money I will do the cake. It’s going to be just a simple cake, nothing an airbrush, buttercream, and 2 hours can’t handle. However, my mom and some family members say it’s going to be impossible for me to do my own cake and that it’s a stupid idea to even think about it. I want to get some input from others before I decide for sure but I don’t want to wait too long if I do end up having to book a decorator.
Any input would be awesome.
Thanks guys!
I may be crazy right there along with you, but I’m planning on making my own cake as well…so Id say “go for it!” I’m not getting married right away so sadly I cant tell you probably beforehand if I’m batty. But my plan is to make the decor way in advance and the majority of the ambiance will be from the table set-up itself (like pretty cake stands and decorations) with the cake and cupcakes (I’m a big fan of crazy amounts of cupcakes) being simple and pretty :] hope that helped at least a little bit, and good luck!! <3
I did my own… and look back, with pride…
If you are confident in your ability and planning… good for you!
It could always be done, or prep’d the evening before… and all of the decorations done in advance.
If it is going to make you feel stressed… get someone else to do it… it’s your big day… enjoy it!!!!

perfectly said Julez!
I agree! If you want to make your own wedding cake; by all means, do it! I didn’t make my own; but my sister did AND she coordinated the entire wedding as well (it helps to have very organized family members too:). However, my cousin did all the baking for her…just an idea – have someone you trust bake your cake/cupcakes for you and all you have to do is the fun part…that might ease some of the stress anyway.

I’d say that if you know that you can do it, and you’ll have the time to do it (that’s the big issue with most weddings, you’re so busy the few days before that you don’t have time) then you can plan on it. But if you think it will stress you out then get someone else to do it, it will be worth it. It sounds simple, though, so as long as you know you’ll have time, go for it.,
I say go for it!!! If your organized…you can do it. I made my daughters wedding cake. Kept it simple, per my daughters request. And of course, although not the bride, was the Mother of…still busy…Get someone you trust to decorate your cake table….my daughters best friends Mom did ours. Then also put your trust in someone who could deliver the cake to your venue day of the wedding for you. I spoke to the venue manager and let her know friends were coming in to decorate the cake table for us. I went about a hour before the dinner and took the cake myself. I’m sure your venue would be most helpful with whom ever came with the cake and help them to set it up. My wedding cake was was baked and froze in advance. Covered & decorated 2 days before…sat in my guest bedroom where it was cool & dry. :o)
