Brush embroidery

Hello. I’ve been looking at various tutorials on brush embroidery and have seen royal icing, buttercream and watered down sugarpaste all used.

Any advice on the different mediums? Which do you prefer?

Hi Mel, I always use royal icing!! It works really well and it hardens so there are less chances of damage. I can tell you nothing about the other two as I have never used them for brush embroidery!!

I always assumed it was done using royal icing but was curious after seeing the tutorials. Thanks Marlene :) xx

I use Royal Icing but also will do this in buttercream for an elegant effect. Just make sure your brush free of excess water on the buttercream.

The only time I tried it was with RI, did not know you could use the other two mediums… Learned something new :-)

I’ve used both RI and BC. BC gives you more time..slightly different affect. RI you have to do in small batches and work quickly as it dries fast. My advice is to practice on a pice if dried fondant. Then you will know which type of icing you prefer…
