Hi Roo’s! I’ve used Massa Ticino from a couple of years and It is really the best brand for cake decorating (for me)
I thing there’s no much difference between normal and Tropic but I always use Tropic
You are going to love it
good luck!

I’m agree with Karla…i also use Massa Ticino Tropic and don’t want back to the other brand :) It’s very good and easy to work

Thanks ladies, have ordered the tropic and very excited about trying it out. Christine, windsor cake craft have just started stocking it and standard uk post is free. You can also get from town and country fine foods, but minimum spend is £80 and can only order over the phone.

Thanks roo! :-)

Oh I’m intrigued I have never heard of this fondant before.

I’ve been curious about Massa Ticino as well, so happy you raised the topic. I can’t seem to find Australian stockists so have looked on ebay and it is quite expensive. Let us know what difference it makes to your cakes :)

Sassy Cakes and Cupcakes

I’ve used both and definitely prefer the tropic version, the other was sticky and rock hard! You’ll love it : )

Glad it is finally available over here at a reasonable price. Would take my cakes to a whole new level. I’m currently using Culpitt sugarpaste, which works suprisingly well considering the price, but it really doesn’t like being coloured (basically turns into Renshaw). Does the Carma Massa Ticino still have the same great quality after colouring?

I have this one and it is wonderful :)

Definitely one to look in to, I use a brand called Covapaste at the moment and I find it works well, but always up to finding new and better pastes! Thank you Roo, for bringing up the subject. :)

I have been wanting to try it for ages, but always been so difficult to obtain. It is relatively expensive, but am told a little goes a long way. I have a couple of cakes next week, so will report back to you all and let you know how I get on.

For those like Anna (Sassy Cakes) who live in Australia, I have tried to get this fondant here. Amazon sell it, but when you get to the checkout they don’t ship it to Australia. I found a stockist in the UK who does send to Aus, but it was going to cost $80 for postage. So unless you are charging the earth for your cakes, it just isn’t worth paying that much for. Bake Boss sell a fondant called “Wonder Paste”. I really like it. It has a lot of playing time, doesn’t tear like Satin Ice and tastes good. Lorene

Mine arrived today. I have a Swiss student staying with me at the moment and he is going to see if it is any cheaper there as his sister is starting out decorating cakes. Calli, let me know how it works out for you and if it is worth the extra.

Ladies in the UK, if you do find you like it, which I’m positive you will, then it’s well worth talking to Town & Country about ordering it in bulk as they may bring the price down. The delivery is free and always next day. The 7kg tubs store well as they’re sealed. As a guide I used one tub a couple of weeks ago and it covered two four tier cakes comfortably so a little goes a long way.

Well I have made two cakes this week and used Carma Massa and …. sorry but I am rather underwhelmed. Both cakes were two tiered and on both occasions when I covered the first one, the sugarpaste felt very sticky and tacky making it difficult to smooth. It was weird because when I covered the second tier, the paste was much more manageable and went on like a dream.
Positives; I did use less, it smelled and tasted lovely, the finish was good, however, my usual sugarpaste always works a dream, smells/tastes good, gives a fantastic finish and works out at £3 per kg compared to £7 per kg for CM. Glad I gave it a go as I feel very happy with my “go to” paste and the £ stay in my pocket. I know that this is always a very personal preference, but happy that my favourite is the one I usually use.

I was pretty underwhelmed with it too. I was expecting something pretty amazing for the price and others comments. It covered a fiddly 4" round nicely, but it tore on the 6". It was so sticky it was sticking to my work tops as I kneaded it. I won’t be buying it again :-(

Glad that I am not the only one Amanda, kept thinking that I must be missing something.

So which one do you usually use Roo? :-)

Julia Hardy

I use Windsor cakecraft’s own brand “couture” sugarpaste and, when I want an egg shell finish, Squire’s . Believe me Julia, I have tried them all : ) and have found with these brands I get no tears, elephant skin, wrinkles etc and they both cover so easily.
What do you use Julia, your cakes always have such a great finish.

Roo's Little Cake Parlour

Thank you Roo :-) I have been using Sugarpaste Direct for a while now and I like it. I use any cheap supermarket brand for my boards though :-)

I used this fondant for the first time and had a terrible experience with it. The bride told me the fondant had become rock hard making the cake almost impossible to cut. Any ideas as to why this could have happened? The fondant is fresh – I checked the date on the bucket… Very disheartened.

DJ - Fun Fiesta Cakes

I bought mine after Wimbledon, The Cake Decorating company promised a 17.5% discount if Andy Murray won and he did, so I got it at a super price! I haven’t tried it yet, I still have a lot of the normal Massa Ticino to use up first! xx

Pamela - http://madewithlovebyme.wordpress.com/ www.facebook.com/PamelaMcCaffreyCakes

It is a stiffer paste than others, but I really don’t think any fondant sets so rock hard in such a short space of time. I read your other post about giving her a full refund, you’re mad! There was nothing wrong with the cake itself, just her preference of hard/soft fondant.

Have you tried leaving some out for a while and see if it sets as rock as she says it has?

www.facebook.com/amandaslittlecakeboutique

I always use Massa Ticino. It’s lower in sugar compared to some, and it’s just the best for all my cakes. I’ve never had a problem with it setting hard, worth the extra cost . Made a four tier wedding cake a few days ago, every bit of the cake, bar a slice of the top tier was eaten and had very good comments on the cake and fondant etc.
