Cake Decorator of the Week
I may get stoned and harrased for posting this but I feel it needs to be said.
I always saw the cake decorator of the week as a way to pay homage to the very talented people on this site and also to display talents of those hidden treasures. Let me say that I feel all those who have gotten cake decorator of the week was well deserved.
My problem is that there are over 10,000 decorators on here and there have been 8 repeats (in the 9 months the Gazette has been published and it is trackable). One decorator was even featured 3 times in that time frame.
I feel that the cake decorator of the week is losing its flair. It seems as if it is more a popularity contest than a true way to feature some awesome talent.
I have said my peace so now I will get off my soapbox and wait for the stoning.

Hi Jennifer, No stoning from me. I’m pretty sure you are not alone in feeling this way. You get mad love from me and I love your work(this is why I ‘follow’ you on here)!

I have noticed also that there have been repeats as well. I guess maybe a question would be what are the determining factors that go in choosing decorator of the week on a weekly basis.

The only thing i can say is all the chosen cakes r gorgeous,for one reason or another.Maybe will be much better if was more than one each week because r many awesome cakes in here!

I thought I had seen some repeats, but I convinced myself it was all in my head. Glad to know I’m not as crazy as I thought I was!

I have to agree with you cupadeecakes. I also thought there were repeats…. glad I wasn’t crazy as well. I know for sure the cake artist now featured, although very talented, not taking that away, definitely has been featured before.
With the plethora of pro & non-pro cake artists here, you could feature a new one every week and never run out of talented decorators.

I agree. Measuring by popularity is very easy and democratic. But doesn’t equal ‘by talent’.
How do you want to measure talent? Guess it calls for a board of ’Pro’s’, mixed by different geographical origins. I see a great difference in taste and style by country… These pros would then vote for a talent, but that costs time and needs committment…

See I think there is already enough competition on the site with the daily Top 3 and 15. Decorator of the Week should just be a random person selected to feature there artwork. This way we all get to see someone we may not have noticed before.
Why does everything have to be about popularity???
No stoning here on Cakesdecor. That is why I love this site. Everyone is friendly and supportive! Keep your chin up ,as long as your customers and or family and friends are happy with your work you should be happy too.xx

Lori-Ann thank you for your support but I wasn’t writing this topic because I didn’t get picked. It just seemed to dilute the purpose of the showcasing to me when the same people are picked over and over.
