Water for a swimming pool cake

I know some people have used the blue gel that Wilton makes. It comes in tubes.

Besides piping gel I don’t think anything will give you that clear look. You could use buttercream with a more opaque look or paint fondant. I used piping gel but the stuff I had tasted awful! It was wilton in the tub not the tube. So I would say try the tube it may taste better.

Piping gel is the best for water…haven’t tried it, but wonder if you could add a bit of flavoring to it? Might be worth a try! :-)

Wilton makes a sparkling blue gel that does come in a tube. The sparkles do give the water dimension and movement which makes for a nice effect. I used a bit of it in the pond on the garden cake I did a few weeks ago.

i use piping gel all the time, i usually paint the fondant blue first, let it dry and then just add the piping gel until you get the look you want over the blue icing. or the wilton sparkling blue sounds interesting.

I’ve also used piping gel – it’s always worked well.

I MADE A SWIMMING POOL B’DAY CAKE FOR MY DAUGHTER & USED PIPING GEL…IT WRKED WELL & IT LOOKS GD TOO..BUT I COLOURED THE PIPING GEL BLUE FIRST & THN POURED IT INTO THE POOL…..

Piping gel is the best. You can achieve a real water look by barely adding any blue to it. Too much blue is just too much. I did it for a competition cake.
