The ugly stage : (
Hi folks, so sorry I haven’t been on here much lately, I have been so busy (wedding cake season).
I am making another 3d cake today and I am sat here looking at it thinking, oh dear this doesn’t look great. I do this with most of my 3d cakes, they all go through THE UGLY STAGE! nothing looks right, even the dimensions look wrong. A few times I have been tempted to scrap it all and start again. Then all of a sudden it all comes together again phewww.
Why does this happen? It stresses me out so much. Why can I not learn to trust that it will be fine in the end lol.
Is it just me or do you have the same experience. xx

I think we are all like that. I’m that way with flowers. Sometimes I’m ready to just throw it out without finishing and then voila in the end it looks okay. This is what happened with my foxgloves. Didn’t help when hubby asked “what flowers are these supposed to be?” and when I told him his answer was “I just don’t see it”.
lol Goreti that is exactly what I mean. It is the same if I am making models, but I have learnt to just go with it and they nearly always come out ok. The good thing with models and flowers, you can just do them again but you have to get it right first time with cake :) x

I know exactly what you mean Ellie. I’ve been working on a cake project. My hubby’s very, I mean very analytical. Hubby looked and said "What the heck ( ahh..not heck! ) is that supposed to be? Then I thought, is it that bad I looked this morning, and thought…I like it. You gatta trust the process, and trust your vision is going to come out when your finished…

All cakes seem a total disaster at th beginning, but once I start adding things to them they start transforming themselved in the idea I had in mind during the designing stage!!! I think that this is something every cake decorator goes through!

So nice to hear i’m not the only one. Well my first 3d cake from this morning is now iced and looking so much better, Im now at the ugly stage with a house shaped cake :(. Thanks for chatting ladies x x

Ellie, I go through the same process with my 3D cakes, I sit there hating it, then your right, something just happens and it transforms. Why do we always doubt ourselves!

My nephew is an artist…and he throws out more than he keeps. I look at the discards and say…wow. He sees the mistakes that I don’t…I think we’re all critical of anything creative we do…it’s silly really, but that’s just the way it is…especially if you’re a perfectionist..
