Hi dear CD members,
I have to make a 1st birthday cake for 150 guests. I have the following cake pan sizes: 11", 10", 9", 8", 6" Rounds.
I know I can look at wilton’s charts etc to find serving sizes but in many cases I have seen those servings are just approx and I usually end up with more cake than mentioned….i mean my 10″×4.5″ single cake tier (I bake two 10″×2″ cakes which I usually torte to create 4 cake layers and three filling layers) has fed approx 50+ guests depending on how its been cut but Wilton’s says its for 38 wedding servings sizes.
So for 150 guests whats the best cake tiers to bake. I’m thinking mayb 11" + 9" + 6" ?
Any ideas and suggestions would be very helpful, please! TIA :)

I like to use this https://www.bakingit.com/index2.html#tierCombinations to determine what size cake I need. I like this one because you are able to put in the portion size you want. Hope it helps.
Thanks a lot Goreti :)

I have found that a 4 torte cake with filling tends to make smaller slices so you can use Wilton’s chart and then add 25%. Wilton’s chart specifically states that it’s for a two-layer cake. Another thing that my wife would do is print out the cake slice pattern and bring it with her to weddings and parties so she could show the host(ess) the best way to cut the cake.
Hope that helps and good luck :)
