I’m sure people have asked about this time and time again – but I’ve had a client ask me to ship a cake to them within the UK
Has anyone had any success and did you find a great courier
I’m struggling with suitable packaging and couriers

I can’t really help you with information on shipping within the UK but as far as packaging this may be of help to you. http://www.fondantflinger.com/2013/12/17/shipping-a-cake/ I’ve done something similar & shipped within the US successfully.
thanks Goreti – will have a look now – seems quite a difficult thing to do xxx

Personally I don’t think I would be able to trust a courier. It’s bad enough just getting a cake in and out of the car without the fear of something breaking! We have had orders from across the country in the past but usually it involves a member of the wedding party collecting or charging delivery costs on top. How far does it have to go? Would be nice to know if anyone has had any experience with UK couriers that specialise in this sort of area, definitely a niche business for someone maybe?
fortunately its not too detailed – but there is definitely a niche there ….. xx

I am about to do some trial shipping in the UK! So I will let you know how it goes. The main problem is how roughly the parcels get handled at the depots despite fragile stickers etc. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had success :) xx

wow sarah lou – i’d be very interested in watching how things go – i thought a company called APC could help – but we had a discussion as to what constitutes a perishable item. x

I couriered a cake within the UK for my aunts 75th birthday. I advised the company when booking that it was a cake (single tier fruit) and, on their advice, I did not secure the package until the driver picked it up and gave me a signed note to say he was happy with the packaging (lots of bubble wrap etc), warnings (right side up/fragile stickers). It was an overnight delivery. Sadly in did not arrive looking as it did when it left me. I personally would never do this again as my aunt was quite distraught about the appearance of the cake, although it was still edible and very much enjoyed by the family.
Thank you so much for the feedback .. I’ve decided not to ship them … But to come to some arrangement with the client. xx
