I Need Edible Printer Calibration Help

I just bought my first edible printer. A canon mg5520 and I noticed when I made a copy of a picture it was a lot different in color. I looked in the manual for the printer and did not see anything about calibration.

Does anyone know if edible printers can be calibrated or is it just the nature of edible ink that you will never get the exact coloring of a picture? I noticed it was a lot less yellow.

Hi Jennifer,

Not sure if you solved this issue but it can be quite hard to get the edible image colours perfect. Since edible inks are, in simple terms, a type of food colouring, the prints will never truly match that of regular inks, but you can get it close. A couple of quick pointers:

1. Printer Settings: with a bit of trial and error you can match the colours pretty closely. Go into the printer property setting (Print> Properties > Main > Color/Intensity > Manual> Set) and you can test out the print colours there.
2. Ink supplier: some edible inks are really not good quality, make sure you are using an established and well reviewed supplier – we don’t sell them ourselves but we are happy to point you in the right direction.

We’ve actually written a blog post about these colour and shade issues, so if you are still facing issues feel free to check it out at: http://topperoo.com/blog/how-to-solve-edible-ink-issues

Thanks

Actually, ink makes a huge difference and each company sells different inks. Settings are important, but each company has different settings with their ink. I would suggest you contact the company you purchased your ink from to find out what it is they recommend. I can tell you that the Icing Images brand is very close with basic settings. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Most welcome! In my case, I find I have to adjust the reds so that I get the purple or lila in the picture, but the difference is acceptable :):)

Depending on the brand of ink you use you may get different overtones in color. Also, it is important to use the manufacturers settings as well so you get the overall best results for your prints. For us, we supply a free online graphics program to our customers with the recommended settings. Our colors are very vibrant and true. When we go to shows customers are amazed at the high quality of our prints. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions.
