Display cakes in bridal shops??

Hi all, a very smart new bridal shop has opened up in my village & I was hoping to contact them & discuss displaying 1 or 2 dummy cakes in their shop.

Does anyone have any experience of this; is it the norm to pay them something per month to do this or give them a percentage commission when a referral takes place??

Many thanks
Sally x

Ive been invited to display my cakes in a wedding cake shop window a while back… its free advertising for me and very grateful to her for the offer as she is not charging me in any way.
I suggest you enquire tin this shop you mention and perhaps leave your business cards there. I have also done this on a local bridal shop in the next village where I will be teaching next year. (Still under negotiations)
I hope this helps?

I would say call them or stop by and introduce yourself. Then I would ask if they would like a dummy cake to display in their shop. Offer to leave some of your business cards and take some of theirs. I have dummy cakes at several locations and I don’t pay for any of them.

Thank you both for your replies. I’ll pop in once their open, introduce myself & see where we go from there.

would love to hear how it goes Sally, good luck xx

I have also got a dummy cake in one of our local bridal shops, which is displayed in the window along with a sign with my details. I also have several cards inside.

I found that by going in and asking, I got a better response, and the lady was really pleased when I said if she showed me what she was going to display, I would make a cake to match one of the dresses. This then gives them a good reason to put it in prime position.

There is no charge for this, as she has found this helps her window display.

Good luck, and I hope it works well. Let us know.

What a great thread…it’s food for thought…I have a connection to one of our local bridal shops and never thought about this angle for advertising before…good luck to you Sally! x

Thanks for all your messages — I contacted them as an introduction & went to see them.
I ended up with an order of mini cupcakes for their opening event & she has said she would happily display a book/portfolio of my work in the shop so I’m really pleased.

That’s great news Sally Jane! I will offer one word of warning about your book / portfolio.

There used to be this cute little place in the mall called Club Libby Lu. They ha lots of little girls birthday parties there and I was making cakes all the time when I first started out. I put a lot of time into making a scrapbook of my previous cakes and they graciously agreed to let it stay there. About once a month I would grab it and a few pages to it. Once I went in to add to it and the staff said “Oh, your employee stopped by a few days ago and took it”. Employee? I don’t have any employees!! Yep, someone came in and STOLE my book! I don’t know why, but they did.

Moral of the (longer than I expected) story? Make sure the staff knows that no one leaves with the book except YOU.
