Icing Smiles – Canada

You can find them on Facebook and by just Googling.

I’m a volunteer and I think it’s an awesome organization. I hope you join.

Cheers.

Lucky you Teri. I contacted Icing Smiles….nothing. They had a booth at the Canada Baking & Sweets show in Toronto this past summer. I spoke to the reps and they gave me the distinct impression they only wanted “high end” decorators. Disappointing.

@jchuck that is disappointing. I contacted them when they first arrived in Canada and filled out an application and it was accepted. I am by no means a high end decorator. But, I do have a Health Inspected Kitchen in my home. I know they had a bit of struggle getting started in Canada, maybe they were swamped with applications. I’m also out in eastern Ontario, maybe there isn’t much choice out here, LOL.

If I were you I’d try again.

Yes MsGF saw where you were located. I also applied right away. I’m too close to Toronto. But I did make it very clear I was just a hobby decorator., not a certified business. Now, I should have said I wasn’t disappointed in Icing Smiles, there a great organization….just the Rep. She was overwhelmed & perhaps in her haste, she didn’t express her self correctly.

Thank you all for your help, I’ll try to contact them. Unfortunately I do not have a certified business and I am not “high end” decorator. I think Vancouver does not have such an organization, and it is my desire to give some joy to sick children. I volunteer at a children’s hospital and do know how it is sometimes hard to do anything because of the large bureaucratic procedures. I have a personal reason to do it and in any case will not easily give up.

I have been a baker with Icing Smiles since they started and have even spent some time talking with founder Tracy Quisenberry. I am a big fan of their work. I have been told that depending on the country or state you live in, that non-professional bakers may not be allowed. Icing Smiles is really grateful to all their bakers – if they don’t “want” you then it’s probably a legal thing with the place you live. That should have been communicated better by the rep though (if that’s the case). If not, reconnect with them.

I totally agree Jennifer…they are a wonderful organization. I do believe the Rep did not express/communicate correctly. I don’t believe she meant to knowingly “snub” me because I was a hobby baker.
