Cake Decorating Tools & Supplies

CALLING ALL SUGER ARTISTS...need your input, please!

  • I’m posting here because you are all looking for tools and supplies at some point and as a group, have varying degrees of sugar art experience and needs. We are opening a new school/store in February and are trying to figure out what to stock in our store and what kind of classes sugar artists are looking for. Please help by giving us your input. We would surely appreciate it!

What is your level of experience? Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced/Professional Master

What is your preferred art and medium? (ie. sculpting/chocolate or sculpting/cake or flowers/gum paste)

What is your “must have” sugar art tool and/or supply item??

What classes would interest you?

Thanks in advance for your time and feedback!

Oooh great question!! I love making flowers, and I know
a lot of people would love to learn how to so it’s really
great that your going to be holding classes.

Well firstly I’m a beginner and I love working with
gumpaste ( I use satin ice ), I started learning by
watching lots of YouTube tutorials and asking lots of
advice and tips. My favourite tools are just about everything!
flower cutters, flower pads, flower tools, and my
lustre dusts- these are great to work with.
I think that learning how to make basic flowers is a must because
you can build on your knowledge from there and learning how
to shade them in after using the dusts,so maybe you can add these
classes? Hope that helped :-)

What is your level of experience? Intermediate (I hope). First learnt in1980… but am now outdated in techniques!

What is your preferred art and medium? flowers/gum paste

What is your “must have” sugar art tool and/or supply item?? Good quality, metal balling tools

What classes would interest you? realistly priced… I have no idea what these type of classes are worth, but was shocked around christmas time, to find a local supplier trying to run classes for decorating what I considered a “not too difficult christmas cake” at a cost of $170 au. I am prepared to pay for the knowlege and expertise that others are marketing…. they deserve compensation for their effort… but I like value for money

Level intermediate I suppose :) medium fondant. Must have tools, metal ball ones from Martha Stewart and xacto knife. Classes I have taken because interested was animal figures (monkey) etc. Classes that interest me now is figure sculpting. I would recommend class on children’s cake as that is where most people start (wanting to make their children’s cake) :)
