I’m pretty new to this site and I just can’t believe how many cool decorators I have discovered in the past couple of days.. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING!
I see all this Sugarvail work on the cakes and I love it, my question is HAVE YOU EVER USED SUGARVAIL and what do you think about it? Is it easy to work with, drying time, etc…
Then I discovered *SUGAR LACE *from Claire Bowman, is there anyone out there that has used both and which one do you prefer?
I did some research but it seems Sugar Lace is only available trough Amazon (for us in the US). Anyone that has seen it anywhere else?

Hi, i use something like sugarveil…but here in Italy we have something with different name..the name is Magic Decor Pavoni. You can search on internet. I think they are all the same way to work it because i saw some tutorial ande seems they are work in the same way. Btw i used this Magic Decor Pavoni and it’s easy to work with..they really elastic and you can apply easily on your cake. But you must apply it while they are elastic..otherwise when they become hard it’s really fragile. I used once on one of my cake and i love it. They make your cake stunning in the easy way :)
Btw this is the tutorial from Magic Decor Pavoni : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8_KHpR30W0
Hope i can help you and answer your question. Have a nice day :)
Thank you so much SweetLin, great video, that is definitely a cool idea, to mix two colors together. I was just wondering, when you make it how much do you make, do you get different measurements with the package, so you don’t have to use everything right away and also how long does it take until it dries out and becomes too fragile.. I watched a video about Sugar Lace, they packed all the leftovers with parchment paper and aluminum foil and I guess you need to put them in an airtight container and they said it could stay soft for couple of weeks… does Magic Decor work in the same way? Thank you for all your help, it’s very sweet of you! :)

We had a whole cake club meeting devoted to sugar veil/sugar lace. I haven’t used either myself. But two of the Pros at the meeting have. Both preferred sugar lace over sugar veil. There isn’t much difference in price, but they both said it was easier to work with, kept longer, was much more flexible with better working time. Hope this helps. :o)

jchuck that is exactly what i have heard too, that sugar lace stays flexible longer and doesn’t break that easily and it’s easier to use all together. It’s still not so big here in the States and it seems you can only get it trough Amazon, maybe I will try Sugarvail first and then if I’m really not happy with it, get some Sugar Lace. Thank you so much ladies for your help.

I’ve used Sugarveil a few times before, and as a beginner, I’ve found it quite hard to get the hang of. I tried Claire Bowman’s Cake Lace, you get beautiful results like Sugarveil but it’s so much easier!!! I’ve used it for just over a month now, and it hasn’t failed me at all! I think you can get it from a few different places now, but I always get mine from the Cake Decorating company because they ship everywhere, with really good prices.

Btw i never store it, because i apply directly and i follow all the instruction on the package…so i couldn’t tell you…but probably if you store it in the container and wrap it well ..it will last longer…because actually the air that make it dry. Btw Magic Decor is so easy…you will know it when you work with it…you can let it 3 hours before you peel it out from the stamp or you can bake it for couple of minute like the instruction said……If you peel it and it’s stuck…it’s mean you must bake it more for couple of minute and control it. Magic Decor lace so easy to work and i cut it with scisors so easly to get the shape i want. Hope i could help you and sorry for the late reply as i didn’t notice it before.
I use The Cake Decorating Company. They sell everything Cake Lace, and everything else you’d need. They also have amazing customer service!
