Cake International - Birmingham 2014

Okay, who else saw the biggest collection of talent last week at Cake International? My goodness, I have never seen SO many INCREDIBLE cakes all in one place before!! I was completely blown away by the work on display at this years show, never have I seen so many Wedding Cakes too, there were so many beautiful designs, they attracted huge crowds!!

For the first time, I saw cakes that MOVED, yes, they moved AND one even had a voice!! Those who were there, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about, but for those who sadly couldn’t be with us, Vicky from Incredible Edibles made an almost life-size Maleficent cake which spoke, and Robert from Spongebobs Cakes made a Freddy Kruger cake which moved every-time someone clapped, AMAZING!!!

Every single entry was such a treat to see, I can’t pick a favourite out of the competition entries, it would take me forever to decide!! One group entry which really stood out to me was the “Hollywoof” collaboration, dogs dressed as famous film characters, genius idea!! I love animal cakes, so you can imagine how amazed I was when I saw them!!

My highlight of the entire show has to be THE cake… yep.. I think you know which one I’m talking about, the spotlight cake for the show, the FLAWLESS and absolutely incredible, PERFECT Avatar cake by the extreeeeemly talented Emma Jayne of Emma Jayne Cake design. I have no words, it’s by far one of the best cakes I have EVER seen!! – Emma, you are a true ARTIST!!!

Congratulations to all of this years winners, it was a truly incredible show and you should all be feeling very proud of what you have achieved!! I can’t wait to see what you’ve got planned for next year!!

It was an awesome show – hard to believe we were looking at cake most of the time. Most of these belong in a museum or art gallery – maybe there should be a new Cake Art Gallery opened somewhere…..now there’s a thought…….
