Hate the cleaning up!

lol, that made me laugh Rae! :) My ‘hate’ is making figures!! Especially if it’s for a wedding cake. I’m getting slightly better but they still look like they’re a little deformed!!

Trying to find that one tool that I need! That I know I just saw but now I cant find! Then waste an hour looking for it!!

Cleaning (CLEANING!) during and after…Takes more time than baking and decorating I think lol.

also (and I know this isn’t EXACTLY cake decorating BUT) why does the phone always ring while I’ve got my hands saturated in Crisco? Or why does the FedEx/UPS guy ALWAYS show up while I’m in the middle of rolling out a large amount of fondant????????

LOL – I can see myself in all of those situations – especially the phone ringing when I’m in the middle of “fixing” something I messed up on the cake and I’m all frustrated… I LOVE cake decorating – but I can’t stand the clean up afterwards – no matter how NEAT I try to be, I end up with a combination of flour, buttercream and Royal icing everywhere… how do I manage to be so consistant? I have black granite tops in my kitchen and every speck shows like neon lights… imagine that! :)))))

Definitely the cleaning up and carving cakes (cos it’s messy and I am not too good in it)!

I know I’ve already stated how I hate the clean-up part but I ESPECIALLY hate cleaning BRUSHES!

hahaha I agree with almost all of you…“clean-up” after making the cake it’s a mess in my kitches :s
And i also hated to treat with irresponsable people… :P
And I hated to do stripes on cake, i really dont know how to do them…

I hate cleaning up, baking and separating eggs!!

I would much rather be the decorator and have another person bake the cakes!!

I am the messiest egg separator in the WORLD! It doesn’t matter if I use a tool to separate eggs or do it the old fashioned way, shells always end up in the yolk or the yold ends up everywhere but the bowl!! Ugh!!

I agree with all the above and also cutting & measuring butter. I hate to have greasy hands :(

Im going to have to go with cleaning up. After baking and decorating, that’s the last thing i want to do lol

Coloring frosting! I hate it! When I put some in a small bowl I have to mix for HOURS it seems and I still end up with a tiny little bit that is still white. Arrggghhh!

I’d much rather be decorating then baking!
Wish someone else could do the baking for me and I just concentrated on cake decorating :)

What a fun topic! I hate when I accidentally drop a utensil and have to clean and sterilize it again. I can tell you my husband hates it when I grunt in frustration from doing so. UUUUGGGGHHHHH. :-)

I agree on the baking, I just want to get on with the decorating, and glad to see i’m not alone in getting myself and my kitchen in a mess while i’m doing it. I have a bad habit of not putting stuff away while i’m decorating so I end up working in the tiniest space on my worktop surrounded by tools, colours, bags of paste etc!

Totally agree with you, SlicefSweetArt… I ave exactly the same problems…. Especially the letters, arghhhhh….. Maybe we should start a new topic on those :))

The thing my DH hates is when he walks into the kitchen and I say “What does this look like”?
He has this look of terror on his face because he just knows he’s going to say the wrong thing!

The thing I hate most (apart from the cleaning up) is colouring sugarpaste. I always end up in such a mess, even with wearing gloves. And waiting for things to dry, I’m not very good at that either!

o my, the clean up would have to be first! and the drying time….I have no patience for that!

I don’t understand why we don’t have cake fairies =)

The paperwork, dealing with customers who try an order a cake at the last minute. We stay booked six months in advance and most people can not think that far ahead.

Baking! I’m good at it but I blooming hate it! Takes up so much time that could be spent playing, err I mean working with fondant!

I hate the aftermath (cleaning) and coloring my white fondant!

Making homemade fondant! That stuff is MESSY:) Also, cutting out small details from fondant.

I hate how icing sugar just gets everywhere! And I never relish mixing up or colouring Royal Icing (can’t bear the smell either). I suppose my top hate though is kneading, colouring and rolling out sugarpaste… Mind you, it does mean I don’t need to go to the gym to work my upper body out though ;)

All of the above, but definitely hate cleaning up after making chocolate cake and ganache, seems to take forever to get rid of it from bowls, walls, cupboard doors, handles etc etc!!!

Lol you all made me laugh such a funny topic ! Mine is the cleaning , always amazes my husband that a cake can look so clean when he sees the mess that its created in ! I always tell people it’s not dust in my house its icing sugar !!

Yep, I have to admit it too… The cleaning up is worst part, I don’t even realise how much mess I have made until I’m finished… so, I just stand and stare at it for a bit and wonder where to start :D

Lol yes the clean up after is not the best part!! I try to stay on top of it like wash up after baking whilst the cake cools, but when the decorating part starts it’s like a cake bomb has exploded in the kitchen!!

What a good thread. I am not fond of any process leading up to the covered blank cake to be honest!! Esp over making fondant, smbc and ganache. Love making figures and decorating!

Great topic :) …. the part I dislike most (not hate really) … is covering cakes… I am nervous every time!! once that is done, I relax and enjoy it far more.

You know, I’ve changed my mind, after the cake I made today, I have to say that colouring fondant is the worst, I can’t bare it anymore!! :D

i hate kneading the fondant and covering the cake! i loveeeeee covering the board it’s so fun !

and baking but ONLY because i always make a spare batch(just incase i need it? lol). I end up scoffing it down my mouth so fast and since i have no self control I eat the whole thing(plus loads of buttercream and ganache and if there’s cream cheese frosting I’m in complete DANGER high sugar rush zone) and then I realise it’s 10pm and i’ve literally no room for a healthy dinner and all i’ve eaten is sugar all day lol

I too hate the cleaning up, but even more I hate placing fondant letters on cakes and cake boards, they always seem crooked, not centered, or a couple letters are not evenly spaced. Very frustrating and time consuming.

I also hate putting ribbon and bows on the edge of cake boards. I love the look but it’s a fart-a** job. It takes forever to get it straight and even, then making and centering the bow. Not fun. I usually volunteer my Mother to do that job. ;o)

Definatley letters !! And of course cleaning up and putting away all my tools I tend to take everything out even if I don’t need it..messy worker :)

Working with chocolate as I find it messy, baking, I’m a decorator not a baker although I’ve never had any complaints and making cakes that are Old-fashioned’ I much prefer something a bit out there…

I agree I get some designs sent to me and think…Please no!! I try and guide them to somthing more contemporary although I don’t mind a traditional looking cake for an anniversary I did a golden wedding once so was pretty honoured to do that in a traditional style !

I dont really mind cleaning and i love to bake, i love trying new recipes and make lots of treats and artisan breads even when im not caking!
I hate putting my tools away, I’m not very organised and I only have one cakey cupboard that everthing gets piled in!
Also, I hate waiting for flowers and gumpaste models to dry….I have ended up getting impatient and taping wired petals far too soon……with many dropping off! Oh no! :-( This is why im becoming a big fan of wafer paper!

Your second and third are mine as well. But on the top of my list would of course be cleaning up the mess. I seem to use every pot and pan in the house and every counter space in the kitchen. On making lettering. They call them Tappits. I call them tappit, slap it, swear at it, throw it across the room cutters!

cleaning up and listning to some one who still wants the cake found on internet and me wanting to go for what is in my head whahahaha

I feel so much better reading everyone’s comments about cleaning up and the mess they make .. cakeicer that is hilarious about the tappits!! :)
