Hi everyone,
I am a vegan and will be using Satin Ice for decorating a cake.
Would appreciate any feedback on Satin Ice and also would like to know if there are any other vegan options for fondant.
Thanks in advance.
Barbismom.
I use Satin Ice. I love it. I find it soft and easy to work with. Have you checked out their website? The have lots of info, videos ect…

I personally prefer FondX and I hear it’s also vegan.
I have also heard that Choco Pan and Pettinice are vegan too, but I have not verified this.

Thanks MsGF. I’ll check the videos and other info on this website.
cupadeecakes: Thanks a lot! I’ll check those options, as well. I just have one more question for you. Do you prefer FondX over Satin Ice? Thanks.
@Barbismom – Definitely prefer FondX (Eliite) over Satin Ice. I even like Fondarific better than SI.

Hi Barbismom,
I prefer Pettinice over satin ice when covering cakes. Satin ice tends to have alot of air bubbles and the finish is never smooth enough for me (maybe I’m not patient enough with it). Pettinice is vegan, I just checked – although not sure if they use raw sugar just in case you look out for that too. I’ve never tried Fondx or Fondarific, but based on Jenniffer’s suggestion, I’m going to try it myself too. Pettinice only comes in white (I think) and I hate coloring fondant.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I absolutely do not recommend a newbie to use Satin Ice – I can never get it to look smooth and without those pesky little air bubbles. Sorry, but I just don’t like Satin Ice – I’ve tried it so many times and I am always disappointed with the results – but… then again… it could be me!

That’s it! I have just covered my last cake in Satin Ice and I’m tired of the quality. I don’t know lately if I’ve gotten some bad batches but no matter how much I knead it, use the mat, and work with a ganached cake, the darn stuff is not smooth (and my ganache is smooth as glass underneath). Especially the blue/vanilla – it has always given me the worst coverage. I will use the rest of the buckets I have for figurines and cake boards. I’m sticking to Pettinice (even though it pricier) and going to try Fondx too. Just had to vent because I’m working on a grooms cake right now and it needs to be perfect, and Satin Ice is spoiling it for me. :-(
