Credit where credit is due
OK, so this is a rant of sorts, but this kind of this infuriates me!
If you use another cake decorators cake as inspiration, or hell, if you blatantly copy it, would it really kill people to at least acknowledge that they’ve done so? A quick note to say that you were inspired by ‘such and such’ is all that is required.
There is nothing wrong with using other designs as inspiration, or even replicating cakes you’ve seen and I do understand that sometimes we can’t remember who’s cake it was that we used for inspiration, but even when that does happen, at least say that it was inspired by another cake but you can’t remember – you would be surprised how many people will already know where you got the inspiration from and can help you find the person. The cake community is pretty close knit and we are all familiar with each others work, so do the right thing and give credit where credit is due!

I totally agree tortacouture! I just had posted about this too on my fb page! Check out Stop that Cake Theif on facebook!! LOL I have seen a lot of this! It really is upsetting not to give credit where credit is due!!

Stop the Cake Thief’s purpose is to identify people who ‘steal’ other people’s pictures off the internet and pass off the work as their own, which is WAY WRONG, sometimes illegal and decieving to their customers….not giving credit to the originator of a particular cake design is only rude, especially if you know who the design source is. I usually try my best to give credit where it’s due…but I know I’m guilty of posting a few inspired designs that I put no decription with or anything….or I’ve already posted on FB giving credit but then didn’t on here,CC or other sites like that, it can be a sticky wicket for sure!!

Amen! But I remember as a newbie…I didn’t acknowledge others as my inspiration right off because I didn’t know any better. But you should always let people know that you were inspired by others work…I try not to copy …I may tweak someones design…but if I don’t know who the original was done by I will say I was inspired by a cake and the artist is unknown to me.

Ive seen plenty of my designs copied without a word being said…..and people will say ‘awww what a great design!’ and I think….hey its my design!! LOL
I do always write underneath mine ‘inspired by’….but i post in that many places (personal facebook, facebook page, flickr, here etc) that i dont always write it underneath every picture….i know i should but i always forget which site its on PMSL
i agree but there are times the customer sends us pics of what they want and not know where the source came from. I usually try to change it up a little to make it my own but sometimes they want an exact.
