Does anyone have any tips on how to get more followers on cakesdecor.com? I’m not sure if there’s something else I need to be doing besides posting cakes and commenting on other cakes?

Hi Sherry, sorry I do not have all the answers for you.
Speaking from a personal perspective… a couple of years ago I had health issues and I spent hours and hours on CD following 100’s of people.
More recently my life has been able to take on new ventures… and the time available for CD and other social platforms has decreased.
In order to find balance, I choose to “follow” people that are interactive with me and my work. Kind of like in real life… you reserve time for those that make time for you.
Having said that, I do “like” and “fave” cakes by people that are not on my “follow” list… particularly those that make it to home page, that I admire.
Occasionally if I have more time, I will scroll through the many pages of cakes that have been posted, but this is patchy, depending on how much time I have.
In addition, CD is a place where the members are your peers, so you cannot expect to have 1000’s of followers, as you might in an open public platform like FB.
I can see from your activity log, in the past 12 months you have posted 12 cakes and this post, but not left a comment or faved any work of others.
Your work appears to be very well done, maybe a bit more interaction could be key in achieving the results that you would like.

Thanks for your input ;) I don’t get on very often as I work a lot so finding time do do that is definitely key.

Julez hit this on the head and I have spoke of this many times in the gazette. Cakesdecor is very interactive so the more active you are the better it is for you. And not leaving comments for others I think is the biggest key. I think you find the ones who do best on here are very active. Now that does not always mean they have the best cakes and sometimes that does upset others but unfortunately they are the facts. But I will say if you have a great cake I think most of the time those active members will leave comments. I am like Julez and used to spend a lot of time on here I now too cannot be on as often as I like but even if you just slot 5 minutes a day aside to leave a few comments here or there I think you will see an improvement. Many of us are now best friends just because we left a comment on that persons cake, that is better than any top 3 in my opinion!

I think Julez and Shags have said it all really. We’re all pretty busy, and for myself I tend to be quite intermittent on here, but I do try to find time to spend 5 mins several times a week to catch up, it really does make a difference. Xx

Be careful what you ask for… LOL.
The more followers you have, the more “likes” and “faves” you need to get to home page or the daily top 3.
It’s not like you will gain an automatic advantage.
I actually get there a lot less than I used to.
I enjoy caking to reach my own goals… and use CD to interact with and be inspired by the caking community.

For me personally, I don’t look at it as a ‘competition’ (as I could never compete with these talented artist anyway!); but I use it as a brilliant resource; if I need help/ideas/support, etc, I know I will always find it here. On the occasion that I get a comment/fav from one of these heros of mine, it’s just the greatest encouragement I could receive. So my advice: don’t worry so much about the ‘honor’ of the home page…that’s not why I cake:)

I often find new sites or blogs by following links from other people’s sites either when they’re a guest post or when the host blogger either has sites listed as sites they checked out that week or their favorite sites in the margins. I believe this happens some as bloggers read each other but especially as they meet at blogging conventions and other similar places.
