Hi all,
I am hoping someone can come to my rescue.
I am looking for a really good red velvet cake recipe for a square cake and cupcakes!
I have tried a few online recipes that have either not been red enough (despite adding so much gel colour)- or have not baked well!
Many recipes call for cake flour as they are American and my last attempt to make cake flour (using cornflour and plain) – the result wasn’t great. I’m wasting so many ingredients…. Please help!!!

Hi Lena – A red velvet cake is made out of coco powder and red food colouring and because of this you will get a brown/reddish cake and not a red cake. Its a very moist cake. If you want a red coloured cake then use a normal sponge cake and add red colouring. Stick to using super fine SR flour and you should get great results . Hope this helps.

“Divas Can Cook” has the most wonderful Red Velvet cake recipe EVER!!! I use it all the time and always get lots of compliments on the cake. It is red, moist and delicious. If you type “Divas Can Cook” her website will pop up and you can search for the recipe. If you try it, let me know know you like it.
