Please tell be I’m not the only one who has had a run in with a hotel owner / staff. I just got off the phone shaking and almost burst into tears.
Its a week before the wedding and I have finally got the contact’s details at the hotel from the bride ( I have been asking for the details since the bride booked the order )
So I called the hotel and asked for the lady in charge of the weddings and was put through. I asked the lady if I could come down to see the spot where the cake will be going ( as I am putting the cake together at the venue). I was told I could if I want to but the cake will be going on the table with the vintage puddings, teas and coffees. I asked if it could be on a separate table, she had a melt down telling me in no uncertain terms that she did not give a damn about the cake or me, her focus was on the bride only.
I have never encountered such rudeness and when I wanted to complain I found out she is the co- owner of the hotel.
Did I do anything wrong?
When I she could describe the location, what sort of table, the colour of the table cloth ( I am trying to find out
So sorry that you have had such a bad experience. It is a bit weird that she said she only cares about the bride not your cake. If she cared about the bride she would care about the cake too since it is what the bride wanted! I hope you go ok setting up. Let us know how you got on. Xxoo

What an awful experience. It’s tricky one but I would have though a separate table would have been appropriate as the wedding cake is very much a feature of a wedding. I would have contacted the bride to let her know what has transpired and ask her if she was happy for the cake to go on desserts Table, or if she wants it on a separate one.
I’ve only had one minor altercation with rude venue receptionist, on day of assembly…. I dealt with it quietly and firmly and got what I wanted, as I knew what the bride wanted and my focus is on her, not the venue staff
Please let us know the result and if you got a separate table. Just because she’s co-owner, doesn’t give her the right to treat you so dismissively, you could be a potential client in the future.

I called again and spoke to another lady who helps with the weddings and arranged to pop in the following day.
When I arrived the rude lady ( who was now lukewarm ) took me through to the room and explained that they were now going to have a separate table for the cake and it would be in the corner of the room, but I would only be allowed to set up after the buffet is over.
This is not a problem, I asked her for some kitchen space so I could prep the cake before placing it on the table and she took me to kitchen.
She still told me that the bride is her focus and I explained that the bride was also my focus and that she wanted the cake to wow the guests.
It was uncomfortable to say the least, but I got the table for the wedding cake
and the bride will not get stressed out with the location of the cake and I did not add extra stress to her already growing stress levels
Good for you for standing your ground. Your right, the end result is to please the bride and groom from all aspects of the celebration.

I’m going to say what everyone is thinking but is too polite to voice. The woman sounds like a stupid cow. That is all :)
Good to hear that you managed to get what you wanted. You really don’t need added stress when finishing a cake at the venue!!! Xxoo

On the way to the wedding we had to brake hard to avoid a car that pulled out of a side road, the cake toppers crashed into the side of the box
( we were doing 40 miles )
I fixed the groom and little boy, but could not fix the veil, then the heat in the room started to wilt the ruffles. It was like an oven
Not one of my better days, I got home and made a lovely cup of tea.
Yesterday I received a lovely email from the bride and the groom who were over the moon with the cake was delicious and said the mini cakes went down a treat
Oh dear Caz………sometimes you think life is conspiring against you. But sounds like you did a sterling job of pulling everything together even so.
Put it all behind you, mark it down to experience and focus on the road ahead xx
Well done anyway xxxxxx

Thanks it felt like a cake gremlin was working against me but my cake jedi senses keep me afloat ( just kidding I was hanging on by the fingernails )
Uploading the cake images, not very good ones as I ran out of time, but the images are from the wedding venue
