Old Monk Bottle Cake

Hi i have to make a lying down Old monk rum cake.
i wanted to know, how to get that whiskey color and shine on the bottle. I don’t have any air brush machine.
The old monk bottle has sorta mosaic finish on top….how do i get that as well?
Thanks and have a nice day.

I don’t know the bottle but if you don’t have an airbrush, hand painting the cake will result in a shiny surface. You’ll need to experiment mixing colors – a mix of brown, yellow and orange I’d think – to try to get the color you need. Paint a sample on a white piece of fondant and also on a tan or yellow piece. As I said I have no idea what the bottle looks like but to get a mosaic-like finish you can either put together pieces of fondant (like a true mosaic) or trace the design and emboss it with a pointy tool of some sort, and paint within the lines. If you need to you could outline the shapes with a darker color if that’s what the design calls for. Good luck.

I’ve painted on fondant before with food coloring and maybe a tiny bit of water if it needs thinning. It usually turns out a bit shiny, so that might get the effect you’re going for.

Hi and thank you for the help :). Even I was thinking of going with a pale yellow base fondant and then coloring on top with brown and orange. I am attaching the pic of the bottle, it shows the mosaic finish on the bottle. I was thinking of doing the mosaic with royal icing and then painting on top. Is it possible or the royal icing will melt due to moisture?

As long as you don’t put the cake in the fridge the royal icing should be fine. The fondant will protect it from the moisture in the cake.
