Basket weavingwith buttercream

Hi cakey people, I am very new to the cake world but have definitely found my new love :-)
I am trying a basket weave cake for a friend but have never done one before. I just want to know is it a easy technique to do for a beginner or should I get lots of practise in???
Thank you x x

Ive never attempted a basket weave cake, but I understand the technique.
Do you mean piping it with buttercream?
You should definately practice it first, maybe on some greaseproof paper, then you can reuse it and go again.
When I want to learn a new technique I google it and look for vids on you tube.

It isn’t that difficult but I’d practice first. I teach it and people understand it pretty fast. Just make sure you crumb coat your cake in the same colour as the basket weave. Also it is a technique that requires more icing than usual, so be sure to have lots. And always start at the bottom of the cake to ensure straight lines up to the top. You know the bottom is level but the top might not be, so if you start at the top the lines will lean more and more as you go along and it will be very noticeable.

Good Luck
