Marvelous Mould Onlays

I finally got my hands on these wonderful moulds! But the sad part is that the day before they reached me, my staff broke my pasta machine.. and now i need to use these moulds urgently. Has anyone used them without a pasta machine? With just a rolling pin to roll out the paste?
Any answers will be helpful. Thank you !! :)

Attaching a picture of the onlays just to be clear.

Yes…I just used the thinnest bands (pink coloured) on my Wilton fondant roller and it was thin enough.

HI there, when I make my ruffles following the Maggie Austin technique (she uses a pasta machine and I don’t have one yet), I hold the piece of fondant in my left hand and with my right hand, I use the roller to stretch the fondant in one direction only, going away from you (no back and forth movement). I hope I am explaining this right. It really thins it out. However, I am doing this on small stretched of fondant, yours is much bigger but you can still try :-)
Love your cakes by the way :-))

Your cakes are gorgeous!!! I too have just rolled out the gumpaste very thin without a pasta machine. However I find its best to spray the mold with a release agent before placing the (firm) gumpaste on and then I use a rolling pin to roll the gumpaste into the mold grooves.

Per your previous response – you’re welcome, glad I can help!

As for cornstarch, not so sure. I too use a release agent but mine is just to brush shortening into the mold which works for about three uses, then I’d brush some more if I need to use the mold more than that. Never tried cornstarch but somehow I think it might not work as well as it won’t really get into the grooves which are the places that usually would have more issues with the fondant sticking. On a simple mold I think it might work ok, but probably not for a complex one like say the damask.
