Hi everyone, I’m new to the site and I’m looking for some advice.
Before I went to into business, I made a couple of Marvel / DC cupcake sets, as well as some Disney themed sets. Since I’ve launched officially quite a few of my cautious friends have mentioned Copyright.
I know there are many decorators who will purchase toys to go with cakes, so as not to “cross the line” But I’d like to know what the boundaries are. If not, how do you all handle it?
The superhero cupcakes I made were simply with the badges on them. And the disney cupcakes were more of an “inspired by” set.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance :)

If I understand copyright laws I think your disney cupcakes would be fine but the Marvel/DC cupcakes would be treading on the line.
My understanding is you can’t use the logos or the words, but I have not looked into copyright laws that in depth.
Here are pretty good articles I just found that may help you.

I don’t know anything about copyright laws, but I do know I love these toppers!!

I’d say the bottom ones are fine, but the top ones have logos that are recognizable so they wouldn’t fly. If you can look at something and see a character or a logo then you shouldn’t do that design.
