Hi all. I am new to this forum and am excited to be here. What talented people and beautiful cakes on this site. In March of this year, I signed up for the Wilton Courses and loved everything about them. I had never done any cake decorating before but now I am hooked. I have posted pictures of some of the creations I have done over the past few months.
I hope someone can give me some guidance. I have been asked to make a Back to the Future Cake. Does anyone have any tips or hints on how to make the Delorean Car from the movie and what would be the best medium to use for making it. It would be a cake topper not a full size cake. Any help, suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Shawn
Hi Shawn,
Since you are making the Delorean as a topper, you could always do it with cereal treats (rice krispies) and cover in fondant and/or modeling chocolate. It will depend on the size you want to do, you could even just shape it from fondant or modeling chocolate completely.
I searched this website when I was looking for specs on a specific car, and they have almost every car on their website. Here are some specs on a few Deloreans:

You can use these to help you with dimensions and shape. If you print them out, you can use the blueprints as templates to carve the cake or cereal treats. I did this and it worked very well.
If you choose to make it from cereal treats, I’ve found that letting them firm up and then trying to shape has worked best for me. For example, I used a loaf pan to get a basic shape for a Doctor Who cake, then using a very good, serrated knife (a good paring knife would work as well), I carved it into shape (to be fair, it was only a rectangle, but I did make a football as well!). You can pack the rkt’s in really tight, I used another loaf pan to pack them in. I left them for a day and they were very firm!
I hope that makes sense, if not, let me know!
Best of luck with it!
