CakesDecor Gazette: Issue 3.04 / April 2014

Editorial

Hello my Lovelies,

I LOVE a good reaction to my work….in fact, I think I can admit to being a big reaction junkie! There’s nothing like seeing joy on someone’s face and knowing that something you created with your hands put that look there.

Well recently, I got the best reaction EVER! Months ago, when my gorgeous friend told me she was having a larger than usual party for her adorable son’s first birthday and dedication ceremony and it would have ‘A Very Hungry Caterpillar’ theme…I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I knew that I would finally get to really challenge myself with a stacked cake structure.

Anyway….weeks of planning, painting and creating later and we were carrying the towering confection to the stunning Dessert Table made by another wonderful friend. When Riley’s mum saw the cake….my usually unflappable friend practically threw herself at me and hugged me for ages while she cried on my shoulder!! Cried!! Happy tears she promises me ;)

Now I’m even more desperate to push the boundaries because I want me some more of that!! Is that bad? Should I hang my head in shame I don’t need applause or publicity or fame…I just want tears haha! Happy tears of course ;)

What has been your best reaction to something you made? Tell us your great reaction story in the comment section below, we’re looking forward to reading them. You can also tell us what you would like to see in future issues of The Gazette :)

Interview #22: Michaela Fajmanova

Bio

My name is Michaela Fajmanová and I live in the Czech Republic. After graduating from high school, I worked as a shop assistant, barmaid, air hostess and in the end as a restaurant manager. In 2008 my first daughter was born and I became a full time mum. Three years later my second daughter was born and that’s when I discovered the magic world of cake decorating. In short space of time, the hobby turned into business and today I run my own cake studio specializing in wedding cakes. I live with my husband, children, two dogs, four cats and 10 chickens in a small village by a forest.

My hobbies include drawing, painting, and photography. My favourite sports are skiing and cycling. My family and cake decorating are the two biggest loves in my life.

Cake Masters Magazine - April Issue

(Sponsored)

Welcome to our beautiful April issue and we are so excited that this is the first Cake Masters magazine on the shelves in WHSmiths (UK)!

This issue is full of wonderful cupcakes, bringing some beautiful miniature modelling for you to be inspired and mesmerised by.  It never ceases to amaze me how far some artists go to bring unique and brilliant ideas to the small top of a cupcake. From the very delicate to the way out there, we really get to see some amazing skills. I have always been fascinated by miniature modelling – so we have a special selection of features and artists that really show you what can be done on a tiny scale.  Believe me it’s eye-poppingly wow stuff!

We have Astral de la Mare from Buttercream Bakery - Brighton who applies a level of cute, colourful detail to her most tiny cupcake toppers.  We couldn’t let Astral get away without sharing some of her skills, so we have an exclusive tutorial from Astral with over 30 images showing how to model mini sweets and treats perfectly.  We also have the superb and internationally recognised Sachiko Windbiel from Mimicafe Union, who has turned her attention to detail and love of modelling into a thriving topper business.  You won’t believe her amazing little fondant creations!

We are also so lucky to have a few cupcake themed tutorials; Cake International Gold winner Amanda at The Clever Little Cupcake Company and Crystal Candy bring some exciting skills and ideas to keep you inspired!

In other news, I was lucky enough to be Jen’s Afternoon Tea date this month at The Ritz- London, it was just the most luxurious and gorgeous belly-filling treat!

We had a great time featuring Cake International winners last time, so we have done it again! Our magazine is always about the people behind the baking, and in this feature we let you hear and see the people that are keeping this international competition alive. I hope you enjoy reading about the ups and downs of competing….and maybe get a little inspired to try something yourself!

Finally, we will be at The Cake & Bake Show Manchester and Cake International London this month, so please come and visit us. We love to chat to you all, and we will have something very special for you to see…and wear(!)..all will be revealed! www.cakemasters.co.uk/magazine

Hi Raewyn.
The best reaction I ever go was tears too, happy tears. Though my work wasn’t outstanding and gravity defying, like yours, mine was a simple garden toadstool cake for a little lady’s 3rd birthday. The specs given by the mother was just something to do with flowers or plants because the beautiful little girl loves gardening.
When mummy saw the toadstool cake she hugged me so tight and had tears of hapiness in her eyes. That was the best experience and reaction I have recieved in the 2yrs I have been caking.

Mine was a simple baby shower cake for my niece. 3rd cake I’d ever made. She hugged and cried when she saw it….best feeling ever!!

Creativity is God's gift to us. Using our creativity is our gift back to God. Clarky's Cakes 😎

My best reaction was for this baby shower/ birthday cake. Her mum ordered it for a surprise and when they both picked it up, her daughter looked extremely happy and close to tears and wouldnt stop thanking me as she carried it away down my path. Couldve been the hormones! :-)

sugar and art - perfect combination! sugarmagic22@gmail.com

Funnily enough, it was very recently. Other than for my grandchildren, most of my cakes are made for adult recipients, who are generally very pleased. This particular cake was for a friends little boy. She brought him with her to collect it and the look on his face when he opened the box was absolutely priceless. He absolutely beamed from ear to ear, bless him.

What lovely stories and gorgeous cakes!! Thanks for sharing with us :) xx

Editorial should be a place where people can come together, share their ideas and express themselves. You don't have to be an editor or writer to be part of this community. I have met some amazing people here and had some great conversations with them. Try this welder yuma for best reviews. I think that it is a great way for people to learn about other businesses and share their experiences with others.
