Some of my pieces for the UK’s first edible Santa’s Grotto, exhibited at Cake International (NEC), Birmingham (UK) over the weekend. This is part of a set, the matching table is shown in one of the smaller pictures.
To give an idea of scale, the chair is just under 3’ (1-metre) high and the table is 1’ (30cm) high. Both pieces are constructed from standard cake boards (the rocking chair used five 18″ × 30″ boards) covered entirely in sugarpaste (including the underneath’s) excepting the vary small areas where they rest on the display surface. The pieces were hand-painted to achieve a woodgrain effect, left to dry, then finished with several coats of edible glaze spray. Needless to say, it was a nerve-wracking 2hr+ drive to deliver them – thankfully they made it there intact :-)
