Please help! Has anyone tried fondx? It’s terrible! I added cornstarch 1st, i noticed it would dry it, than I used powdered sugar, it became worse!! I covered my cake wit it, it started to tear, and the butter cream would be seen under fondant! what shall I do?

I use fondx all the time to cover my cakes. I roll it between 2 sheets of vinyl that have been seasoned with shortening. This works like a charm for me. Doesn’t dry out at all. I use the MAT from sweetwise.

Thank you Sassi, I think this is it: a MAT!!

Yes, a mat or two is critical. Corn starch and powdered sugar will dry your fondant out and you’ll get the elephant skin look. I personally just put a thin layer of vegetable shortening on all of my tools and mats.

I bake, what's your super power?

Sere, thank you for your answer, but the thing is I’m not used to work with mats, I used to put cornstarch and go!! It’s true, it’s getting dried:( But I tried the mat, it sticks so much to it, it’s difficult to roll the dough! as soon as i lift it, it starts to tear! I think I’ll just change brands.

Are you using Fondx or Fondx Elite? I use Elite all the time and I love it! Fondarific is mu other goto fondant.

I use the Matr and this helps with drying. Now if it is tearing it could be because you have too much excess and it is pulling and tearing before you can cover fully. I smooth out the top and down the side an 1inch below the top. then pull the excess in closer the the cake and cut away what is obviously too much then continue to smooth it down the sides. Fondax is stretch and can pull so you have to work fast at the beginning.
