hi guys. I want to make a Smirnoff vodka bottle cake for a friend but instead of having it laying down on the board i was thinking of trying to do it standing up (3D). Was thinking of using small tins and stacking the small cakes on top of each other or cutting circles out of a square cake and stacking them? would this work or would they slip and slide off each other because of the height. How would I go about icing that? Would it be really really hard?
not sure how many people you want to feed but your best bet would be to use 5" or 6" round cakes stacked about. And then use rice crispy treats for the neck of the bottle, making sure that put a dowl in the center, that will hold the neck in place and stabilize the cake itself, keeping it straight
Hi, I’ve done several bottle cakes both 2d and 3d. It’s always best to insert a sharpened wooden dowel straight through the top of the cake into the cake board so the cake layers don’t shift. I stack in this order… 2 small rounds with small dowels or straws for support, a cake board cut to size then I stack the next 2 cakes. If you need it to be taller just repeat with more cake layers, but make sure you add dowels/straws underneath the cake board for support.I always make the neck from RKT, then the dowel straight through. Hope this helps :-)
