Hi!
I have baked two 6 inch cakes, they are around 1 and a half inch high. So both of them together would be around 3 inch high. I am going to use ganache and join them together, then put marshmallow fondant over it.
I am stressing now coz I don’t know if I need dowels to hold them together.. It’s a moist chocolate cake. Would it just collapse?

You don’t need dowels, in my opinion… I do double barrel cakes and never put dowels in, some people put a thin board between, but I don’t, but if it was higher than 5" I would…. with a 6" cake standing 3" high you don’t need dowels

I agree with Calli. I would not dowel it. Be different if you were putting another small tier on top… then I would dowel to support the top tier.

I third this. There is no need to put dowels for a single tier cake.

Thanx everyone. Will post photos of my cake soon. It’s standing up fine without dowels. 😄

Great news!! Look forwards to seeing it
