Has anyone made gumpaste sails before.
Hi there I have got to make a sailing yacht with gumpaste sails and although I have made many freestanding models etc, I am not sure how to make the spinnaker sail at the front of the boat, as in real life thie is only attached to the mast in 2 small places (top and bottom “corners”) and to the deck via the third “corner”.
Anyone got any ideas on how to approach this?.

Could you use wafer paper? Or wafer paper backed with modeling chocolate? Kevin at Chocolate Earth did the latter a few weeks back. Check out his cake FB page – Kevin Martin, Cake Designer. I think the images are on that page instead of the Chocolate EArth page.

Thanks I will take a look. The only problem I forsee with that may be the heat as it is about 33 degrees at the moment. Thanks for your reply.

Hi Mandy, I made the sales for the mermaids and pirates in my cake section using rice paper.
Why don’t you put a sheet in the fridge or somewhere damp and humid for a day and see what happens? Might be ok xx Good luck xx
