Applying silver leaf to fondant

I want to add silver leaf to a cake , but can’t find a definite answer on what to use to apply it to the fondant. Also I see some posts that say edible silver leaf , I can’t find anything that says that on the package , isn’t all silver leaf the same? Ant help would be appreciated , thank you

Hi John. I’m no expert by any means, but I used edible leaf on my last cake and boy is it difficult to use, I used lose leafs and was told later that you can get edible leaf which is stuck onto edible paper which is a lot easier to use because the lose leafs are so fragile.I used edible sugar glue to stick mine onto a mask, I wasted a lot as never had used it before and ended up doing 2 coats to cover splits etc. This probably doesn’t help you but next time I will purchase the one that is stuck to edible paper ( I think it might be rice paper) good luck from novice Kath.:-)

Thanks so much Kath , I’m going to give it a shot this week on a dummy cake for a bridal show in March

Good luck, I’m sure yours will be brilliant! I’m going to get some with the paper backing to try. I think the lose leaf sheets are better for small areas. I was told you can see how to use it on U-tube. It may give some tips and what type to use on what. :-)
