80th birthday cake for my aunt – a good excuse to create a completely new design and experiment with sharp edges. I used a combination of wired and unwired flowers, lace moulds and piping in muted, ‘vintage’ shades. One of my sons asked if I was trying to create an ‘old fashioned style from 80 years ago’? I kind of hoped I’d gone for a modern twist, with the top tier rich fruit cake, bottom tier vanilla sponge cake and matching mini cupcakes and macarons.
