I was asked to create a cake to honor the triple anniversary of Lord Buddha for the Vesak Festival.
My piece tries to capture a moment between a grandfather and his granddaughter during the Festival. Sailing out on to sea and adding their piece to a sky full of giant floating lanterns. Passing their traditions down from generation to generation.
The ocean is actually cake, covered in fondant and glazed. Backdrop was airbrushed and hand-painted on canvas. Floating lotus lanterns are made from wafer paper and the centers are made using isomalt with lights within coming up from through the cakeboard & cake covered in plastic tubing. The figures and board are made using modelling chocolate and the Grandfather’s wafer paper lantern was lit separately with an individual light.
I was thrilled to be asked to join this group of extremely talented cake artist. If you’d like to see the rest of the contributors please follow this link.
